Newsflash 1

The current economic conditions demand that local governments change the manner in which they operate.  To that end, we have made several operational changes that will benefit the citizens of Eatonville.  These changes include cost saving mechanisms and operating procedures that will result in a more efficient and effective organization.

The adoption of new vision and mission statements for our Town was a critical step in establishing a branding effort of an improved Eatonville.  Our vision statement is:

“The Historic Town of Eatonville will be an economically vibrant, sustainable community with a full range of housing, businesses, cultural and recreation opportunities for residents and visitors from around the world.”

Our vision statement establishes the framework of this administration’s plans to advance the town to higher heights with an appropriate balance of economic development opportunities as well as cultural and recreational activities.

During our 2009 Founder’s Day weekend, I presented my 100-day report where I reported that we were poised to increase our financial stability.  We have been taking vital steps toward achieving this goal, the most important of which was presenting and passing a balanced budget.

In addition, in our continued effort to bring new activities and events to our residents, we completed the first of a two part series of the seniors Boost Your Brain Camp.  I would like also to thank all of you who came out to our first annual Christmas on the Boulevard.  We had over 300 people in attendance and gave gifts to every child. Thanks as well to all for attending our Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and Festival in the Park. We are very thankful to Walt Disney World for providing our Grand Marshall Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen. The parade was second to none.

I am also proud to introduce my new initiative called “On the Road to Change with the Mayor.”  Through this initiative, I will be hosting a citizen’s forum in each quadrant in the community.  It is my priority as your Mayor to stay connected with the residents of our beloved town.  These forums will provide an opportunity for us to have an exchange of ideas, voice concerns and provide feedback on the things that are important to you as residents of the Town of Eatonville. The first citizen’s forum will be held at Frances Jerry Community Park on February 24, 2010 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.

As you, all know, in today’s society, security is very important to us.  Therefore, in order to maintain a safe working environment as well as to ensure that the sensitive information and records housed at Town Hall are not compromised, we are installing a state of the art security system at Town Hall.  In addition, this administration is committed to tackling the issues that have long been neglected in our community. As such, Jonotey Dr. has been riddled with potholes and we have continued to put a band-aid on this problem.  I am pleased to report that we have resurfaced a portion of Jonotey Dr. and we will continue this effort until we have resurfaced all the troubled roads in town.

Finally, as we go about our daily lives, let us keep the people of Haiti in our prayers.  Our brothers and sisters in Haiti are in immediate need of the most essential necessities, like food, clothing, and shoes.  The Town has started an initiative called “Walk in Our Shoes” in an effort to provide some relief to those in need.  We have a container that is placed at Town Hall and another at the Denton Johnson Center, where you can donate your shoes as well as any other clothing and non-perishable food items. Please come and donate your shoes and other items in order that we may transport them to Haiti.

As always, it is my honor to serve as your Mayor and if there is anything I may do to assist you please dial 407.623.1313, email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , or visit me at Town Hall at 307 E. Kennedy Boulevard.
